چکیده

A composite quadric model (CQM) is an object modeled by piecewise linear or quadric patches. We study the continuous detection problem of a special type of CQM objects which are commonly used in CAD/CAM, that is, the boundary surfaces of such a CQM intersect only in straight line segments or conic curve segments. We present a framework for continuous collision detection (CCD) of this special type of CQM (which we also call CQM for brevity) in motion. We derive algebraic formulations and compute numerically the first contact time instants and the contact points of two moving CQMs in R. Since it is difficult to process CCD of two CQMs in a direct manner because they are composed of semi-algebraic varieties, we break down the problem into subproblems of solving CCD of pairs of boundary elements of the CQMs. We present procedures to solve CCD of different types of boundary element pairs in different dimensions. Some CCD problems are reduced to their equivalents in a lower dimensional setting, where they can be solved more efficiently.

Efficient Collision Detection for Curved Solid Objects

The design-for-assembly technique requires realistic physically based simulation algorithms and in particular efficient geometric collision detection routines. Instead of approximating mechanical parts by large polygonal models, we work with the much smaller original CAD-data directly, thus avoiding precision and tolerance problems. We present a generic algorithm, which can decide whether two s...

Signature Sequence of Intersection Curve of Two Quadrics for Exact Morphological Classification

Computing the intersection curve of two quadric surfaces is an important problem in geometric computation, ranging from shape modeling in computer graphics and CAD/CAM, collision detection in robotics and computational physics, to arrangement computation in computational geometry. We present the solution to the fundamental problem of complete classification of morphologies of the intersection c...

Collision Handling for Interactive Garment Simulation

This paper deals with real-time interactive garment simulation, and focuses specifically on collision handling between a character and garments. Because simulation speed must be kept over a certain limit in interactive garment simulation, regardless of the speed or type of a character’s motion, a rapid and stable collision handling method is required. For this reason, we approximate the shape o...

C2A: Controlled conservative advancement for continuous collision detection of polygonal models

We present a simple and fast algorithm to perform continuous collision detection between polygonal models undergoing rigid motion for interactive applications. Our approach can handle all triangulated models and makes no assumption about the underlying geometry and topology. The algorithm uses the notion of conservative advancement (CA), originally developed for convex polytopes [1], [2]. We ex...

Adaptive Continuous Collision Detection for Cloth Models Using a Skipping Frame Session

We propose a novel adaptive pipeline for continuous collision detection in cloth simulation. The pipeline consists of four components: bounding volume hierarchy (BVH) update, BVH traversal, a skipping frame session, and elementary test processing. The skipping frame session is activated adaptively for skipping both BVH update and BVH traversal during the process of collision detection. The prop...
